*NOTE* I have gotten a couple emails claiming that when they downloaded my Reset that there Antivirus program said that it contain a Trojan. I have scanned my entire computer, twice, with Symantec Antivirus Corporate(with latest definitions) I also have downloaded the file from the server and scanned it. All of them can up with no viruses found. The common theme in the emails seems to be that they are using Panda Soft Antivirus (anyone else heard of it?). Anyways the file is safe, Panda Antivirus is just misidentifying the file. I have emailed Panda soft and asked for this to be fixed in the next update.
So what is a nForce Reset? Why did you make it? Mwarhead's nForce Reset is a installer that replaces the nForce UDP or Mwarhead's Remix with the original microsoft drivers that came with 2k/xp. The idea is to Reset your nForce drivers to the way they were when you loaded windows for the first time. So effectivly its an uninstaller. The Nvidia uninstaller has many problems which the Reset should provide work arounds or fixes for. This does not actually
uninstal the files from the computer. It effectively performs a roll back like xp does. This tool works quite well in conjunctions with the Driver Cleaner from http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/
Install my nForce Reset first and then run the Driver cleaner.
Instructions for Driver Cleaner:
Run Reset first making sure you click yes to installing SW IDE (its not the actuall SW ide its really the Generic). Then run driver cleaner. Pull down to nForce Chipset and hit clean.
*NOTE* If you have not run the reset (and clicked yes to installing the SW ide) or manually replaced the SW ide drivers with Generic Microsoft ide drivers then when you run driver cleaner or the Nvidia Uninstaller upon reboot you will get a blue screen saying unacessible boot device. Please do not restart your computer after running the Nvidia Uninstaller or the Driver cleaner if you havent replaced the SW ide driver. The reason I dont recommend using the Nvidia Uninstaller is that it locks it so that no other nForce set can be installed (except manually) until after reboot and this includes my reset.
SO, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND
1. Mwarhead's nForce Reset 2. Driver Cleaner 3. NORMAL Reboot 4. Install nForce UDP or Remix 5. NORMAL Reboot 6. Reinstall/Uninstall +Install Video Drivers
This Release Reverts the following drivers back to MS default in 2k & Xp
GART drivers Memory controller drivers SMBus drivers Mwarhead's IDE Conversion Drivers In the Box SW ide
Q&A
Why doesnt your Reset revert the Audio Drivers and Network drivers back to default?
Because there are no default drivers for these devices. Use Driver Cleaner if you wish to remove them.
Problems with the Nvidia uninstaller that are resolved (at least on my system) with the Reset
1. The Nvidia uninstaller will often end up removing or breaking your Nvidia or ATI display drivers as it removes the agp driver and boots into windows without agp acceleration. My Reset replaces the AGP driver with the MS Generic AGP drivers so this should never be a problem. Also for you Nvidia users the Reset doesnt remove any display drivers like the uninstaller. The reason I did this is that its hard to tell if you have a real card or an IGP. Plus many people that use the IGP use the offical Dets anyways.
2. The SW IDE uninstall bug. The uninstaller for the 2.41 and my remixes had a bug where it would remove the SW ide drivers but not replace them with a different ide driver. This resulted on the restart after the uninstall in a Blue screen before windows loaded saying nvatabus.sys is missing and to reload windows. A solution before was to upldate manually the driver back to the generic and then uninstall. Or to disable the service in the 2k/xp cd from the recovery console. Or of course reload the os. With my Reset if you agree to install the SW ide driver it will replace the SW ide driver with the generic MS ide driver effectivly fixing this problem.
3. The Nvidia uninstaller would remove all nForce drivers and not replace them. This lead to redetection when windows reloaded which often if previous nforce sets or oem drivers where installed would bring back old versions. Also if a non Nvidia nic was used it would often download drivers off of windows update. None of which are desireable if you want to complete remove the nforce drivers as I highly recommend before installing any new UDP or Remix.
